The Russian Pictures sale achieved a total of £13.4m, the highest of any auction house holding sales during London’s Russian week. Konstantin Makovsky’s monumental Blind Man’s Bluff sold for £4.3m, establishing a new auction record for the artist and making it the most expensive work sold in a Russian sale in 2018.
Other notable results include Niko Pirosmani’s Georgian Woman Wearing a Lechaki, which sold for a record-breaking £2.2m on an estimate of 500,000-700,000 GBP, as well as Nikolai Fechin’s Portrait of a Young Girl which sold for £610,000. Robert Falk’s Greek Woman (Portrait of Inna Costakis) sold for £442,000, more than doubling its pre-sale estimate, and Yuri Pimenov’s Street Scene in Novorossiysk made £212,500 on estimates of £50,000-70,000.
