Sotheby’s sale of Impressionist & Modern Art brought a strong total of $3,261,378, well within pre-sale expectations. Bernard Buffet’s Clown au Chapeau Haute Forme soared to $425,000, nearly three times its high estimate. Other highlights include Sir Jacob Epstein's Einstein, which sold for more than triple its high estimate at $161,000 and Jean-Pierre Cassigneul's Francine, which sold for $112,500.
On 15 December 2014 Sotheby’s will offer a selection of Impressionist & Modern Art, including works from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Highlights of the auction include paintings by Maurice de Vlaminck, Bernard Buffet and Jean Pierre Cassigneul, works on paper by Jean Dufy and Francoise Gilot, and sculptures by Aristide Maillol, Jacob Epstein and Henry Moore.
