Our 6 May auction achieved over $2.3 million with several lots selling for well above estimate. Leading the sale was a Tiffany Studios, “Dragonfly” Table Lamp which brought $125,000 – over twice the high estimate. A Chandelier from Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann also attracted competitive bidding eventually selling for $93,750 above a high estimate of $70,000.
On 6 March, Sotheby’s 20th Century Design presents a broad range of decorative arts and design spanning the last 100 years. The 20th Century Design auction exhibits a wide selection of furniture as well as designed objects and lighting, including noteworthy pieces by Tiffany Studios, as well as examples of American Arts and Crafts, French Art Nouveau and Art Deco, American Modernism and Contemporary European and American Design. There is also a section dedicated to superb works in the medium of silver from this period that showcases designs from the United States, Mexico, France and Denmark. This sale highlights a comprehensive variety of different artists, materials and styles in design of the last century.
