Condition

The shade is in fair condition. The shade with approximately 40 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, many of which are concentrated in two areas along the bottom geometric register, presumably from a prior impact. As a result the bottom edge of the shade is out of round. There is extensive restoration to the shade leading, primarily concentrated along the bottom geometric register and visible to the interior of the shade. Several green geometric tiles in this region appear to be replaced. All of the turtle-back tiles appear to be original and undisturbed displaying strong iridescence in a full spectrum of saturated hues when viewed with reflected light. A few of these tiles show tight hairline cracks and a few tiles with shallow surface flecks to the exterior perimeter borders. There is some light surface soiling concentrated to the recessed contours of the glass tiles consistent with age. The rare base design is in very good condition. The base displays a rich russet brown and green patina, distinguished by decoration reminiscent of an octopus tentacle. The base with light surface scratches, light soiling, minor discolorations and rubbing to the patina concentrated to the high points of the design. The sockets appear to be original and undisturbed. One of the three paddle switches appears to be an old replacement. The threaded pin from the finial is presently broken off and remains inside the threaded aperture of the wheel. The underside of the finial is presently lacking a threaded bushing to receive a pin from the wheel below and therefore sits atop the shade. The finial appears to be of the period and displays complementary green and brown patina to the base. The finial with a few light surface scratches and rubbing to the patina. A rare opportunity to acquire this extraordinary and dynamic base design.
