Achieving a total of €2.2 million ($2.9 million), the 15 November auction resulted in one of the highest ever totals for a Photography sale at Sotheby's Paris. Irving Penn's masterful Mouth, New York (1992), produced for L'Oréal in 1986, flew to €289,500, setting a new record for a Penn dye-transfer print (estimate €150,000-200,000). The image came from the Lowe & Partners Worldwide Corporate Collection, which brought an overall total of €683,000.
Our Photographies auction is one of the main events during the week of the Paris Photo fair. Attracting the greatest private collectors and photograph dealers our highly selective sales regularly achieve record prices.
The November auction reflects these high standards and our experts will present highlights from every period of the history of photography: two full plate daguerreotypes from the early 1840s depicting the harbour of Nantes, a unique and outstanding portfolio by August Sander with excellent provenance and in the contemporary section a magnificent internal view of Versailles by Robert Polidori.
