This object is in excellent general condition. The prints are in excellent condition, one print with a light vertical fold. The protective tissues are in very good condition.

Catalogue Note
D’origine polonaise, Casimir Zagourski s’installe au Congo belge en 1924 où il exerce le métier de photographe. Durant une quinzaine d’années, il parcourt l’Afrique centrale et rassemble un corpus photographique à caractère ethnographique. Pressentant les changements irréversibles des coutumes du continent, il réunit ses tirages dans une série d’albums, tous différents, qu’il intitule L’Afrique qui disparaît. Dans ses mises en page, il applique une méthodologie de classification qui est non sans rappeler les « typologies » de Helmar Lerski ou August Sander. L’exemplaire présenté, avec le grand nombre de tirages au format carte postale qu’il contient et sa précieuse reliure de veau brun d’époque dite « à l’éléphant » en font son extrême rareté.
