Stanley J. Seeger (1930-2011) was one of the greatest post-war collectors of our time. Together with his partner of 32 years, Christopher Cone, they created a series of truly unique homes in England and around the world, where the sheer joy of their collecting was very much in evidence.
On 30 October, more than 200 items from their idyllic home deep in the British countryside will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s in London. A Private View: Property from the Country Home of Christopher Cone and Stanley J. Seeger features fine and decorative art from 30 different collecting categories ranging in date from the 5th century to the present day. Highlights include a fine survey of Modern British Art as well as works on paper by some of the great 20th century artists. This collection is a testament to the taste of the two men that built it with much to enthral, delight and amuse.
