The Story Behind the Most Iconic Photos of John Lennon

London | September 2015

Bob Gruen’s pictures of John Lennon at home in New York City captured the former Beatle looking every inch the rock star he was, but their real power comes from how comfortable Lennon appeared, offering a real glimpse at the man behind the rock star. In this short video, Bob Gruen recalls the photoshoot during which he suggested that Lennon wear the now-famous New York City t-shirt. A selection of Bob Gruen's photographs of John Lennon and other rock icons will be featured in Rock Style, Sotheby's upcoming S|2 show which celebrates the ground-breaking style of the world's biggest rock stars.
