‘This sale is the most important auction in the field of Italian decorative arts since the fabled Borghese Palace auction 1892’
In 2024 and 2025, Sotheby’s is set to present the greatest collection of Italian decorative arts ever to appear on the international market. Comprising 160 lots, the landmark collection was acquired over three decades by Gianni Giordano for his magnificent villa in Piedmont, nestled in the renowned vineyards of the Alba region (where the Giordano family started producing wines in the 1900s). Testament to his passion for collecting, in tandem with this, Giordano has been meticulously assembling a Kunstkammer collection – considered by the select few who have seen it as the most important in private hands. The auctions of the contents of his home will mark the first time he is sharing his private collection with the world, following which the collector will focus his attentions on his Kunstkammer.
The first of the dedicated auctions will take place in Paris on 26 and 27 November 2024, followed by another tranche in Milan the following year. The first tranche is estimated at €15- 20 million, and will encapsulate all of the regional styles of 18th-century craftsmanship in Italy. A selection of lots will also be offered as private sales.
