Record-Breaking Bidding in Sotheby’s Auction of the Future

New York | 29 June 2020

On 29 June, Sotheby’s made auction history once again by holding a multi-camera, global livestream of our New York marquee evening auctions. Led by the ‘white glove’ auction of The Ginny Williams Collection and followed by spirited bidding in our Contemporary Art and Impressionist & Modern Art Evening sales, Sotheby’s achieved an outstanding $363.2 million with 93% of lots sold. In this video, watch the bidding battles that set new auction records for artists including Helen Frankenthaler, Matthew Wong and Wifredo Lam, as well as the defining moment where Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled (Head) broke the record for the highest price of an artwork sold online, hammering down at $15.2 million.
