'Concetto Spaziale, Attese' from 1965 is one of Lucio Fontana’s most iconic and epic works. This mesmerizing and radiant red canvas bears twenty-four incisions – more than any other of his works – and was inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni’s haunting and enigmatic masterpiece Red Desert. For Fontana, the film was an absolute revelation, and it moved him to create 'Concetto Spaziale, Attese,' one of the most dramatic and sweeping paintings of his career. This work will be offered as a major highlight of Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 11 November in New York.
