Andrew Graham-Dixon Presents the London Summer Season

London | 27 June – 5 July 2023

Author Andrew Graham-Dixon takes us on a grand tour of highlights from The Summer Season at Sotheby’s London. Coinciding with the re-opening of the National Portrait Gallery in London on 22 June, and forming part of their Portrait Mode programme, this summer Sotheby’s will host a celebration of portraiture with a season of exhibitions and events, complementing the traditional marquee auctions of fine art.

Comprising this season are a plethora of categories, including the major proponent of the season’s theme, the Modern and Contemporary Evening Auction, featuring Face to Face: A Celebration of Portraiture, a sequence of works dedicated to the artform of portraiture presenting a tightly curated selection of masterpieces exploring the connections between artist and subjects, spanning the birth of Modernism in the early twentieth century through to the evolution of Abstraction and Pop Art. Bringing together a tightly curated selection of works by the best artists of the 21st century is The Now Evening Auction, addressing the outstanding demand for young and emerging artists. Rounding the selection out in July is the Old Master & 19th Century Paintings Evening Auction, featuring stellar examples from the expansive and celebrated history of portraiture.

Please watch the livestreams of The Now Evening Auction and Modern and Contemporary Evening Auction, featuring Face to Face: A Celebration of Portraiture on 27 June, and the Old Master & 19th Century Paintings Evening Auction on 5 July on sothebys.com.
