Broadway Star Cherry Jones Channels Georgia O’Keeffe Part III: Cottonwood Tree In Spring

New York | 14-16 November

After living in New York for a time, Georgia O’Keeffe made her way southwest to New Mexico. “I’d never seen anything like it before” she wrote, "but it fitted me exactly. It’s something that’s in the air, it’s different. The sky is different, the wind is different”. O’Keeffe began to paint the dry, expansive landscapes she found there, including the cottonwood trees that grew in the river basin near her home in Abiquiu. In Cottonwood Tree In Spring, O’Keeffe employs strong alternating hues of green to approach the elusive boundary between representation and abstraction, revealing the powerful inspiration O’Keeffe gleaned from her experience. This fall, Sotheby’s is honored to present three works from the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum - sold to benefit the acquisitions fund - in our Contemporary Art Evening and American Art Auctions. Join 5-time Tony Award-winning Actress Cherry Jones as she brings the artist's letters to life in three parts. (14-16 November | New York)
