Pioneering artist, Zhang Daqian, combined the aesthetic of traditional Chinese painting with a spontaneity influenced by Western Abstract Expressionists. In celebration of the 120th anniversary of the 20th century master’s birthday, Sotheby’s is presenting a large-scale solo exhibition of his work. In this video, get a First Look at the show, which features nearly 60 paintings sourced from the artist’s family and private collectors around the world. Important works from different periods of the artist’s oeuvre, including his characteristic splashed ink paintings, will be featured in the specially curated event.
