A Portrait of Passion: Lucian Freud's 'Pregnant Girl'

37-year-old Lucian Freud first locked eyes with his younger lover Bernadine Coverley in a small pub, in Soho. Sotheby’s Oliver Barker imagines this electric moment and the later painting of 'Pregnant Girl,' a dramatic and tender portrait of Coverley pregnant with their first daughter Bella. This painting is a major highlight of our Contemporary Art Evening sale on 10 February in London.
