White on White

Buccellati jewelry frequently features “white on white” – diamonds on white gold, diamonds on platinum or diamonds on rhodium-plated silver. Whereas the previous examples emphasize the colored stone as a centerpiece, these bracelets highlight diamond accents and understated contrasting gold tones.

Lace-Inspired Openwork

The bracelet’s delicate gold openwork demonstrates the impeccable skill of the Buccellati workshop. A small saw was used to incise every cell, each of which was then polished with a burin. The ultimate product has an impressive lightness and flexibility, evoking the fine lace that inspired the design.

Buccellati, 18-karat two-color gold, ruby and diamond bracelet. Sold for $125,000.

Flora and Fauna

The world of flora and fauna has provided a consistent source of inspiration for Buccellati. This group of jewelry set with articulated floral and butterfly motifs, encapsulates the workshop’s commitment to unparalleled craftsmanship and mastery of goldsmithing techniques. The array of tri-tone gold and glittering accents of brilliant gemstones unite light and color.

Buccellati, Gem-set bangle and pair of matching earclips. Sold for HK$300,000 ($38,691).

Artful Elements

The tops of these earclips, designed as leaf motifs, suspend two detachable green quartz briolettes. Whether the tops are worn on their own for an elevated daytime look or together with the briolette pendants for an evening out, this pair exemplifies Buccellati’s inimitable fusion of art and craftsmanship.

Buccellati, Two-color gold, green quartz and diamond earclips. Sold for $15,000.

Graphic Sensibility

Buccellati has held its place at the pinnacle of fine jewelry making by constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries with its designs. This bracelet composed of openwork chevron motifs is perennially chic and yet daringly edgy. Decorated with meticulous scrollwork flourishes, it recalls the traditional gold, wide cuff, but unlike most Buccellati jewels, it does not feature precious stones.

Buccellati, Gold cuff-bracelet. Sold for $43,750.

For nearly a century, Buccellati has been synonymous with impeccable jewels. At 28, the firm’s founder, Mario Buccellati, completed his apprenticeship at an Italian workshop, where he discovered the designs of Italy’s rich visual past; Greek and Renaissance craftsmanship, Venetian lace and antique gold work became his enduring inspiration. He opened his own boutique in 1919. “The Prince of Goldsmiths’” esteemed patrons ranged from the Pope to royal families of Spain and Egypt. Today Mario’s grandson, Andrea Buccellati, carries on his legacy. Ahead, learn more about Buccellati’s most iconic designs, three of which are on offer this spring.
