Returning to auction for the first time since 1971, the Stotesbury Emerald fetched nearly $1 million. This unique stone's fascinating history includes two celebrated design houses and three incomparable women who shared an impeccable eye for renowned jewels and gemstones. 

Gold, citrine, pearl and enamel pendant-necklace, Tiffany & Co., Designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Sold for $112,500.

This autumnal hued pendant-necklace was one of the twelve rare jewels designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the auction. 

Extraordinary pair of platinum and diamond earrings. Sold for $5,300,000.

These earrings, featuring two D colour, internally flawless, square emerald-cut diamonds, weighing 20.29 and 20.02 carats, fetched the top price at the auction. 

Platinum, gold, fancy deep yellow diamond and diamond ring. Sold for $750,500.

Centring an emerald-cut fancy deep yellow diamond weighing 6.17 carats, this ring sold for more than triple its high estimate. 

Platinum, sapphire and diamond brooch, Cartier, Paris. Sold for $262,500.

This art deco brooch was formerly in the collection of Mrs. John E. Rovensky, whose previous marriage to Morton F. Plant helped convert Fifth Avenue into the centre of luxury it is known for today. Exceeding its high estimate, this brooch, an elegant and timeless design, is the perfect example of a jewel whose provenance is just as glittering as its exterior. 

Rare platinum, fancy vivid green diamond and diamond ring. Sold for $1,212,500.

In the elite world of fancy coloured diamonds, green and red are by far the rarest colours. The cut-cornered square mixed-cut Fancy Vivid Green diamond weighing 1.64 carats in this sale sold for an impressive $739,329 per carat. 

18-karat gold, emerald, cultured pearl, diamond and ruby pendant-brooch, necklace and cuff-bracelet combination, Van Cleef & Arpels. Sold for $366,500.

The pendant centres an emerald carved with a floral motif, weighing 107.57 carats, framed by round diamonds. Also able to transform into a pendant-brooch, necklace or cuff-bracelet, this versatile piece soared past its high estimate. 

Platinum, ruby and diamond ring, Van Cleef & Arpels. Sold for $636,500.

Exceeding its high estimate, this ring features a cushion-cut ruby weighing 4.35 carats, accented by round and marquise-shaped diamonds. 

Important rose gold and fancy pink diamond pendant. Sold for $2,412,500.

Suspended from a rose gold chain, this pear-shaped fancy pink diamond weighing 11.19 carats sold above its high estimate for $215,594 per carat.  

Exquisite platinum, fancy vivid blue diamond and diamond ring. Sold for $876,500.

This striking ring of crossover design features two pear-shaped fancy vivid blue diamonds accented by round diamonds. 

Sotheby’s 25 April sale of Magnificent Jewels, Including the Legendary Stotesbury Emerald, featured more than 250 extraordinary jewels, many with illustrious provenance. Rare coloured diamonds, such as a fancy vivid green diamond ring, and historic pieces, including a sapphire and diamond brooch by Cartier that was formerly in the collection of Mrs. John E. Rovensky, contributed to the auction's grand total of $29 million. An extensive collection of twelve vibrant jewels by Louis Comfort Tiffany also all found buyers, bringing an impressive total of $602,500.
