There was something for everyone at Sotheby’s on 13 July, when five floors of our New York headquarters were filled with a range of contemporary art, design and jewels as well as collectibles from our Space Exploration sale. The event was a Summer Open House, and so it was with home in mind that we curated property from our Contemporary Living sale into room-like vignettes that integrated art with real-life necessities. Along with midcentury Eames chairs, Alvar Aalto lighting and prints by Warhol were Samsung Frame smart televisions. When not in entertainment mode, the sleekly designed Frame transforms into a lifelike art display, which allows it fit seamlessly into any contemporary home’s décor. Innovation was also the theme of Space Exploration exhibition and a special appearance by Apollo 13 Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise, who graciously posed with fans taking selfies. Guests sipped Miraval rosé from Sotheby’s wine retail and enjoyed music by DJs Anden and a live performance by the Kronic Band. Click ahead for scenes from the evening.
