F or more than seventy-five years, David Webb has occupied a singular place in the history of American design. Founded in New York in 1948, the House emerged during a period of cultural and artistic transformation, helping to establish a distinctly American voice within the world of fine jewelry. At a time when European traditions largely defined luxury, David Webb introduced a bold and innovative aesthetic shaped by the energy of New York, a fascination with history and culture, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina, David Webb moved to New York at seventeen and founded his company at just twenty-three years old. Drawing inspiration from art, architecture, nature, and the diverse influences that defined postwar America, he developed a visual language that challenged conventional notions of jewelry design. Through sculptural forms, vibrant color, and imaginative craftsmanship, Webb's creations reflected the confidence, creativity, and individuality that came to characterize American design in the twentieth century.
Through a curated selection of jewels and archival material, this exhibition explores the House's enduring legacy and its contribution to the broader story of American artistic achievement. More than seven decades after its founding, David Webb remains a testament to the innovation, craftsmanship, and creative spirit that continue to shape American culture.
