S otheby’s is delighted to present the sale Durch Feuer verwandelt / Transformed by Fire, A Private Collection of Early Meissen, which represents the first sale of European Ceramics to be held in Sotheby’s Germany in over 20 years. The Collection is formed of bijou luxury objects designed in the early period at Meissen, when such items would have been intended as influential gifts for the Courts of Europe and dynastically wealthy. Across the collection are several pieces which bear the inventory marks of the royal industry’s principal client and patron, Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, indicating they were once housed in the Japanese Palace in Dresden.
