We are both delighted and honoured that this very knowledgeable wine lover has asked us to offer some of his remarkable collection to our clients worldwide. We have memories of dinners enjoyed together and opinions shared and we are very conscious that this is a selection of wines that has been expertly assembled and perfectly stored. The obvious joy and enthusiasm of this collector for some of the world's greatest vinous creations are evident to everyone who gazes into this cellar.
The extraordinary element of this sale is the passion for Burgundy, allied to a total focus on the best. Of course, it is one thing to admire the wines, and another to acquire them, but this collection is the result of laser-like targeting of winemakers who know exactly what they are doing - while also possessing some of the most exalted vineyards in this exceptional region.
It so happened that I was drinking two outstanding Burgundies from domains in this sale, Rousseau and René Engel, just as I received the inventory - what a way to whet the appetite! The sheer opulence of the Grands Crus is 'something to behold'. It is not every day that the opportunity to obtain those majestic Clos from Morey St.Denis presents itself - Clos de Tart, Clos St.Denis, Clos de la Roche and Clos des Lambrays. Nor is it a regular occurrence to compare Musigny from several illustrious sources, while juxtaposing Charmes with Griotte Chambertin, plus all the untamed scents and flavours of the best from Vosne Romanée and Nuits St.Georges, always a weak spot for me. And then the span of vintages, the majority 'drinkable' from now, provides eternal fascination.
The white Burgundies are no less impressive, encompassing those producers who know how to transform Chardonnay into wines that are almost subversively beautiful. Stylistic variations offer real excitement here.
Following the Chardonnay into Champagne, there is Salon and Krug Clos du Mesnil, but if you lean more towards Pinot Noir in the blend, what could be more glorious than Bollinger R.D. in Jeroboam?
There is a small but perfectly formed showing of carefully chosen top red Bordeaux and, as a devoted fan of the now 'disappeared' Laville Haut Brion（the name, not the wine!）, I would find it difficult to resist some of these mature, mineral vintages that are such a treat with oysters or sashimi.
To round off this eye-catching, and palate-satisfying sale, there are Jeroboams of Hermitage La Chapelle from Jaboulet, a wine of commanding presence, especially in this format.

Keen eye for detail
The highly knowledgeable consignor has developed a deep love for wine over time, starting with Bordeaux and later with Burgundy and Champagne. He is not just interested in acclaimed producers such as Ramonet, Emmanuel Roguet, and Leroy but also constantly looking for contemporary ones like Vincent Dancer, Boisson-Vadot, or Cecile Tremblay, among others. When he first started buying these wines, they were not given as much attention as they are now!
A small part of a much larger collection, this has been assembled meticulously for over 20 years. Many were purchased from Sotheby’s, including single-owner sales such as “Direct from the Cellars of Paul Jaboulet Aine” in 2012;” Wines from the Cellar of The Fux Restaurant” in 2017 and “The Tran-scend-ent Sale” in 2019. Others were mainly purchased on release from reputable UK wine merchants. All wines were professionally stored in a professional temperature-controlled cellar before the sale.
I have been fortunate to enjoy many memorable bottles with the consignor over the years and to listen to his fascinating philosophy on wine collecting. You can bid with confidence in this sale, as the producers presented were chosen not only by name but also by taste!
