T his October in New York, Sotheby’s is pleased to present a unique and diverse selection of works by leading French, Danish, Netherlandish, Italian, Spanish, and British painters that reflect the richness of the 19th-Century. The auction will portraits by Antonio Mancini, Gaston Latouche, and Eugène Carrière, landscapes and scenes of rural life by leading Barbizon painters Léon Lhermitte, Jules Breton, and Charles-François Daubigny as well as Neoclassical figures and sketches by William Bouguereau, Daniel Ridgway Knight, John William Godward, and Ary Scheffer. The auction will also include a number of important rediscovered works by women artist’s, including a monumental portrait by Bertha Wegmann and Louise Jopling’s 1877 masterpiece, It Might Have Been.
