This home FC Barcelona jersey was worn in the 1st half by Lionel Messi when FC Barcelona faced Real Valladolid in La Liga on October 29, 2019, at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain.
By the fall of 2019, Messi was once again reminding the football world why he remained the sport’s defining player. After an injury-disrupted start to the season, he entered the match against Valladolid searching for rhythm and form. What followed was one of the finest individual performances of the campaign.
Although Barcelona briefly secured an early lead, Valladolid equalized in the 15th minute. Messi quickly seized control of the match. In the 29th minute, he delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Arturo Vidal to restore Barcelona’s advantage. Just five minutes later, he curled a stunning free kick into the top corner, sending Camp Nou into celebration and giving Barcelona a 3–1 lead heading into halftime.
Messi's influence only grew after the break. He orchestrated Barcelona’s attack throughout the second half, creating chances, finding space between defenders, and dictating the tempo of play. In the 75th minute, he scored his second goal of the evening with a brilliant finish before providing another assist just moments later for Luis Suárez to complete the scoring. By the final whistle, Messi had recorded two goals and two assists in a commanding 5–1 victory.
Barcelona returned to the top of the La Liga table, with Messi delivering one of the most complete performances of his 2019–20 season. Messi would go on to be La Liga's top goal scorer and win his 7th Pichichi Trophy that season with 25 goals in 33 appearances. The trophy broke his with Telmo Zarra for most all-time. Messi also lead the league in assists with 21.

A Career Without Equal
Lionel Messi’s career defies simple summary. With a record eight Ballon d’Or awards, four UEFA Champions League titles, and ten La Liga championships, he stands as the most decorated footballer of his era. As of 2026, he holds the records for most goals in a calendar year, most goals for a single club, and most assists in football history. Beyond numbers, Messi has redefined the language of the sport—melding vision, control, agility, and humility into a style all his own.
His crowning international triumph came at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he led Argentina to glory in Qatar, securing the final jewel in his illustrious crown and fulfilling a lifelong dream for his nation. That performance, capping a career of almost unfathomable consistency and brilliance, silenced any lingering debate: Lionel Messi is, by nearly every measure, the greatest footballer the world has ever seen.
This shirt, worn in one of his earliest iconic matches, is not merely a part of Messi’s history—it is a piece of football’s collective memory. A garment that bridges the beginning of a career with the legacy it would go on to define.
