Henri de Rochechouart, Marquis de Mortemart, was born in Paris on 27 February 1806. He became a page to King Louis XVIII in 1821, a position he occupied until 1824. He then entered the Ecole Militaire de Saint-Cyr, and served as an officer in the Mounted Grenadiers of the Royal Guard before being made lieutenant in the 4th Regiment of Cuirassiers. Sidelined from public appointments after the 1830 Revolution, he then devoted himself to a political career. He died at Meillant on 17 October 1885.
