Sotheby's is proud to present this baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

This ball is accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication regarding the signatures.

There have been several celebrated home run-hitting duos throughout baseball history—Mantle and Maris, Mathews and Aaron, Canseco and McGwire—but none remain as iconic as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Teammates on the New York Yankees from 1925 through 1934, the two Hall of Famers formed one of the most formidable offensive combinations the sport has ever seen and helped lead the franchise to three World Series championships.

This baseball was signed during what many consider the greatest season in baseball history. The 1927 Yankees won a then-American League record 110 games before sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. Nicknamed "Murderers' Row" for their extraordinary offensive firepower, the club featured Ruth, Gehrig, Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Bob Meusel, and Waite Hoyt, among other stars, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest teams ever assembled.

The Yankees' 110 victories surpassed the previous American League record of 105 wins and remained the league standard until the Cleveland Indians won 111 games in 1954. Nearly a century later, the 1927 Yankees continue to serve as the benchmark against which baseball's greatest teams are measured.
