In 'Old English' pattern, crested, in an oak canteen, comprising:


twelve table spoons, eleven table forks, twenty-six dessert forks, twelve dessert spoons, six egg spoons, a sugar scoop, two basting spoons, a soup ladle, two sauce ladles; together with thirteen plated table forks and a plated dessert spoon in the same pattern and with the same crest,

The top of the oak canteen is inset with a copper plaque engraved "Henry James Grierson, writer to the Signet, Edinburgh".


Henry James Grierson (1896-1961) was the son of Henry Grierson of Milton Park, Kirkcudbrightshire. in 1898 he married Flora, daughter of Major Herbert Buchanan, and this canteen was presumably a wedding present.
