The male satyr on this design is a surprisingly unusual sight on Louis XVI appliques. There is a well-known model attributed to Robert-Joseph Auguste that comparably incorporates a a female term with foliate arms, with examples in the Louvre (OA 10518 1) and the MET (2019.283.74) Another relevant model, also of a female term, is in Nissim de Camondo and attributed to Prieur (CAM 40.1)
