Indochinite — An 800,000-Year-Old Tektite From the Australasian Strewn Field
Tektite
58 x 58 x 20 mm (2¼ x 2¼ x ¾ inches). 92 grams (.20 lb).
Indochinites such as the specimen offered here come from the Australasian tektite strewn field, and resulted from the same impact that created the Australites (see Lot 164) approximately 800,000 years ago. Although Indochinites are not rare by comparison with other tektites, it is quite difficult to find large, symmetrical, uniformly colored specimens, of which this is almost a textbook example.
