A RARE ATAXITE METEORITE WITH OSCAR MONNIG PROVENANCE
Originally discovered in January of 1965 by a 14-year-old on a bird-hunting trip, Tishomingo, like Chinga, is a rare ataxite meteorite with an extremely high nickel content. At 32.5% nickel, it contains one of the highest nickel contents of any meteorite ever found. In addition to this rare physical attribute, Tishomingo quite likely cooled to the lowest point of any meteorite ever discovered – between -75 and -200 degrees Celsius – producing martensite plates, mostly microscopic but visible around the edges as dendritic-like patches.
