At Baselworld 2019, Patek Philippe introduced a new addition to its Grand Complications collection with the unveiling of the Alarm Travel Time reference 5520P. The watch is powered by an entirely new self‑winding movement, caliber AL 30‑660, developed over five years and composed of 574 components. Conceived specifically for this model, it seamlessly combines the Travel Time function with an innovative mechanical alarm, resulting in a complication that is both remarkably legible and exceptionally user‑friendly.

From a design standpoint, the reference 5520P represents a stylistic shift for Patek Philippe and draws inspiration from the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time. With its aviation‑inspired aesthetic and sportier character, it brings a fresh dimension to the Grand Complications line while remaining purpose‑built for frequent travelers.

On the left side of the case, two twist‑lock pushers marked “+” and “–” adjust the local time. Two additional pushers are positioned on the right side of the case: one at 2 o’clock to activate or deactivate the alarm, and another at 4 o’clock to control winding and the setting of the alarm and home‑time hands. The alarm status is indicated by a bell‑shaped aperture below 12 o’clock, appearing white when active and dark when inactive, and it can be set in 15‑minute increments. Large applied Arabic numerals and broad white‑gold baton hands, all filled with white Super‑LumiNova, stand out vividly against the sunburst ebony‑black dial.
