Description
In Archaeological Revival taste, depicting cupid in relief, alongside his attributes, a quiver of arrows, bow and flaming hearts, within a border of white and blue enamel, the reverse fitted with a glazed compartment.

John Brogden was an award-winning jeweller who looked to antiquity and archaeology to gain inspiration for the subject matter of his jewels. He studied Greek, Roman, and Etruscan artefacts, and making jewels was not merely stylistic pastiche but a carefully researched interpretation, often incorporating revived techniques such as granulation and filigree to emulate ancient craftsmanship. Often, jewels had attached 'small tickets explaining the history of the things imitated' to each piece.
