The beginnings of Carlo Guiliano's career are thought to have been founded in his training under Castellani in Rome, producing jewels of archeological revival style. Giuliano moved over to London in about 1860 to establish his own firm creating pieces for various jewellers who retailed them bearing the Giuliano marks. Having great success in this business model he was able to open his own shop in 1874 where his two sons Carlo and Arthur continued the family business after his death.

Giuliano jewels embody design elements from classical antiquity and the neo-renaissance. Despite not having any Royal warrants, but testament to the firms craftsmanship, it is thought that a mourning jewel was produced for Queen Victoria.
