Description
the first, Alexander James Strachan, London, 1816, of elongated oval shape with waisted sides, the lid centred with a plain oval cartouche, on a wavy engine-turned ground, framed by chased acorn and oak leaf borders, fully hallmarked (including 18 ct mark), lenght 9.5 cm.; 3 3/4 in.
the second, John Northam, London, 1819, rectangular with waisted sides, all sides decorated with chevron engine-turning, chased rose thumbpiece, the interior of the lid engraved with an inscription reading: M. U. H. Neilson, 1823, fully hallmarked (including 18 ct mark), length 7.3 cm.; 2 7/8 in.
the third, a smaller example of similar date, ingot-shaped, the lid centred with a rectangular cartouche engraved: Alina in script, on a chevron engine-turned ground, within high relief rose border, slender thumbpiece, plain gold base, apparently unmarked apart from 18K mark to front rim, length 6 cm; 2 3/8 in.
