Description

the first, Johann Carl Retzer, Vienna, 1803, rectangular with cut corners, all sides decorated with reeded engine-turning in circles and bands, within scrollwork borders on a sablé ground, maker's mark, Vienna date letter, Vienna town mark,

length 9.1 cm., 3 1/2 in.;

the second, a two-colour example, Vienna, Georg Schmidt, circa 1807, rectangular with curved sides, the lid and base with a central lozenge-patterned rectangle, within chased foliate borders, reeded sides and scrolling thumbpiece, maker's mark, Vienna town mark,

length 8.4cm., 3 1/4 in.;

the third, probably Wolfgang Schmidt, Vienna, circa 1820, rectangular, the lid chased in high relief with a fox hunt in landscape, within cut borders, engine-turned sides and base, rubbed maker's mark WS in an oval, further struck 18 for 18 ct gold,

length 8 cm., 3 1/8 in.
