An Italian repoussé gilt-metal and gilt-bronze mounted glass mirror, Venice, late 17th/early 18th century

This exquisite mirror embodies the qualities of the celebrated glass industry for which Venice became famous. The remarkably fine barley-twist mouldings project the light reflected in the main and marginal plates, resulting in a rich and sophisticated allure. Produced both as mirrors but also as frames for devotional or precious panels, these works of art were exported throughout Europe and displayed in intimate settings.
