Description
NIKE, NIKE OBORI, SIZE 12.5
Nylon, Leather, Suede, Rubber
Circa early 1970s
This vintage pair of Nike Obori running shoes is finished in blue nylon with suede heels and white leather Swooshes, and remains in deadstock condition, with the original Nike box. The tongues are tagged with the original lowercase cursive Nike logo, absent a registered trademark symbol. The shoes were manufactured in Japan. The shoes feature blue Spenco insoles and honeycomb-patterned outsoles.
The Obori was one of Nike’s first running shoes, produced from 1972 to 1973. Following Jon Anderson’s victory at the 1973 Boston Marathon wearing the model, Nike renamed it the Boston 73. The Obori exemplifies the brand’s early focus on lightweight construction, comfort, and performance, establishing Nike’s reputation in long-distance running.
