The fine quality and decoration on this exceptional jardinière tie it closely to the fine group of blue and white jardinières and fishbowls of similar size and form, decorated with very similar arrangement of Buddhist lions or fish and aquatic plants. Compare a closely related large blue and white 'carp' fishbowl, Mark and period of Wanli, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 1 June 2011, lot 3590.
