This extremely rare timepiece is both charismatic and supremely elegant.
Very few examples of these early white gold rectangular shape Patek Philippe watches are known.
Rarely appearing on the market, these watches are highly sought-after by discerning collectors for several reasons.
Historically, the rectangular watches are a turning point in the evolution of the wristwatch. Indeed, they take their distance from their pocket ancestors to explore new shapes, marking an emancipation from the past to start a new chapter based on their own existence.
Aesthetically, the form does not follow the function anymore. As such, the quest of the beauty of the watch as an object becomes more important than reporting the time, which was until then the main purpose of the timepiece.
Furthermore, the rectangular shape of the case is underlined by the chemin de fer of the dial. It encloses the blued steel spade hands (instead of the Dauphine hands mentioned on the extract), further enhancing the personality of the watch. They are perfectly complemented by the stunning oversized Breguet numerals, providing unparalleled elegance to this creation. Most of these pieces had applied numerals, in the case of this present lot, the painted indexes, not only boosts its rarity, but also further elevates the sophistication of the timepiece.
Finally, at that time, Patek Philippe produced extremely limited quantity of white gold pieces, most of their creations being case in yellow gold cases.
Combining historical and aesthetic appeal as well as rarity, this timepiece would be a wonderful addition to any ambitious collection.
