While not the first Rolex watch designed for life at sea, the Yacht-Master represents a distinct approach within the brand’s maritime legacy. Unlike the Submariner, which was purpose-built as a professional diving tool, the Yacht-Master was conceived as a luxury sports watch for the sailing world, balancing robust functionality with refined aesthetics.

Although the concept for the Yacht-Master dates back to the 1960s, the model was not released at the time, possibly due to concerns that its departure from the Submariner’s design language was too radical. Rather than modifying an icon, Rolex ultimately chose to introduce an entirely new model. The Yacht-Master officially debuted in 1992 with reference 16628 in solid yellow gold. True to Rolex standards, the watch featured a triple-lock crown and 100 meters (330 feet) of water resistance, affirming its strength and durability, while also incorporating premium materials and a more elegant design.

The present example is offered in never-worn condition, featuring a striking combination of Everose pink gold and a rich chocolate brown dial, beautifully contrasted by stainless steel elements. This reference perfectly embodies the Yacht-Master's dual spirit, where sporty utility meets understated luxury.
