the shaped circular bases cast and chased with scrolls, flowers, and lion’s masks, the stems crested and formed as putto, with matching detachable nozzles, marked on base rims twice and nozzles once with maker's mark only

The Estate of Virginia Kraft Payson

The figural stem of these candlesticks is based on a 1747 model by Ernest Sieber (overstriking the mark of Lewis Pantin) which is illustrated in Arthur Grimwade, Rococo Silver: 1727-1765, 1974, pl. 75A.


A pair of this same model made by William Homer, Dublin circa 1760 were sold Christie's, New York, October 26, 2007, lot 246.
