This charming cameo is carved by the Italian engraver, Giuseppe Mango. While little biographical information is known about the artist, Mango trained Benedetto Pistrucci (1783–1855) in the art of gem-engraving, during his time in Rome. Pistrucci moved to London in 1814, where his success developed rapidly and where he received notable commissions, including the Waterloo Medal.
