the verso of the frame inscribed: This drawing / was given to Abel Rous Dottin / M.P. / by Sir Thomas Lawrence / & by him to / me Sir Digby Neave
278 by 195 mm; 11 by 7½ in.
Presented by the artist to Abel Rous Dottin, M.P. (1768-1852),
by whom given to Sir Richard Digby Neave, 3rd Bt (1793-1868),
by family descent, until at least 1964, where it is recorded as belonging to Sir Arundell Neave, 6th Bt (1915-1992)
