The launch of the 5 digit reference Rolex Daytona in 1988 is arguably the most significant evolution of the model over its 60 years history.
It marked the introduction of the automatic movement, replacing the manual winding Valjoux era.
The watch was completely redesigned and was fitted with the new caliber 4030 based on the Zenith El Primero movement.
The 165XX also paved to way to an enlarged offering with more metals, bracelets, dials and precious stones combinations for each client to find his or her perfect Daytona.
The current Reference 16518 example is the perfect watch to wear on any occasion. It has a distinguished character with its yellow gold case housing a white dial with black subsidiary dials and gold applied Roman numerals. The overall look is nicely balanced by the elegant touch brought by the leather strap.
