In the second part of the 1950’s Rolex introduced some screw-down back case chronographs that played a pivotal role and led to the Daytona a few years later, hence their 'pre-Daytona' nickname. More than just transitional models, these timepieces have a strong character and appeal.

The Rolex 6234, for instance, was released in 1955 and produced until 1961. This reference holds a significant place in the Rolex heritage, as its natural technical improvements led the brand to design and release the Daytona in 1963. The pre-Daytona is powered by a Valjoux 72 movement and encased in a waterproof back round case. The total stainless-steel production for this reference is estimated to be approximately 2300 pieces.

The present stainless-steel example was manufactured in 1956 and fitted with its distinctive dial with red and blue double scale.
