A fine Parisian binding made for the Italian merchant and banker Bartolomeo Cenami (1556-1611). The title-page is inscribed by Francesco Maria Conti who owned two other Cenami bindings.

Folio (343 x 197 mm). Roman, italic, and Greek type: 68 lines plus headline. collation: +6 ++6 a-c6 A-Z6 Aa-Zz6 AA-ZZ6 AAa-ZZz6 AAaa-DDdd6: 606 leaves. Woodcut devices to title-page and verso of final leaf, woodcut initials. (Some leaves heavily dampstained, some leaves slightly wormed at inner margin, small rust-hole to YY2.)
binding: Contemporary Parisian brown morocco gilt (348 x 216 mm), plausibly by the Royal Binder, Clovis Ève, for a member of the Cenami family (probably Bartolomeo Cenami), leafy oval centrepiece surrounding a small lion stamp [Olivier 1860 fer 3, listed as an unidentified owner], matching leafy cornerpieces incorporating a small head stamp within a cartouche, two frames of gilt fillets, spine with compartments framed with gilt fillets and containing small lion, flower or leaf stamps, title lettered in second compartment, gilt edges, stubs from two pairs of ties. (Spine ends wormed, some marks to lower board, extremities slightly rubbed.)
