A Spanish courtsword, mid-19th century


with earlier straight blade of flattened-hexagonal section, engraved with scrolls of foliage framing the inscription 'no me sapues sin raison' and 'no me enpainies sin honor' on the respective faces at the forte, steel hilt comprising pierced oval shell-guard set with large faceted beads on the inside a pair of straight quillons with canted terminals set with beads en suite, knuckle-chain, faceted pommel and grip all decorated en suite, in fishskin-covered wooden scabbard
