Description
Kunzite
Galiléia, Minas Gerais, Brazil
6 x 1⅓ x ¾ inches (15.1 x 3.42 x 2.04 cm).
Named in honor of renowned Tiffany & Co. mineralogist George Frederick Kunz who first identified this particular species of spodumene, this large crystal of lilac kunzite exhibits excellent transparency allowing for full appreciation of kunzite's pleochroism, or its propensity to change hues depending on the viewing angle. The crystal features a beautiful, naturally-etched surface, the result of water flowing around it during formation. Brazilian kunzites are often considered the best in the world for the species, and having a representative specimen is always a pinnacle for any mineral collector.
