The Rolex Day-Date reference 18038 was introduced in 1977, propelling the legendary wristwatch into the next generation.

The newly introduced 5-digit reference was an early adopter of the sapphire crystal, conferring the watch with a modern feel and look.

The calibre 3055, fifth iteration of the Day-Date movement, introduced the quick-set function for the date setting.

The popularity of the 18038 among collectors is explained not only on its reliability but also on the endless dial configurations.

Those fitted with stone dials, lacquered, precious stone or even wood are the most sought-after.

This present example presents an extremely well-preserved case with strong lugs and houses a 'T Swiss T' burl wood dial, typical of this rare production.
