FIRST EDITION, parts 2 and 3 (only, of 3), folio (512 x 358mm.), title pages and contents in Russian and French, 52 chromolithographed plates, some folding (part 2: 13 plates in colour, 13 plates with gold colouring; part 3: 13 plates in colour, 7 plates with gold colouring), loose as issued in contemporary green cloth portfolio lettered in gilt, part 2 plate XIII with minor adhesive transfer, part 3 plate II with old tape repair at the fold, perfin library stamp to part 2 half-title and plate and plate XXIX and part 3 title and plate XXIII (not affecting the images), a couple of plates slightly soiled at edges, both spines re-backed


The first part of Gagarin's series of plates promoting antiquarian and Byzantine-style architecture and design was issued in 1897.

The City Library Association of Springfield, Massachusetts, purchased with funds given by Joseph L. Shipley and Margaret H. Shipley in 1914, bookplate, embossed stamp on dedication leaves and library stamp to verso of plates
