Description

Louis Aragon

Feu de Joie. Paris: Au Sans Pareil, 1920

FIRST EDITION, COPY NUMBER 1 OF 50 (marked "000" for the press), 12mo, original wrappers, leaves toned

The Dadaist author's first book, inscribed to the vocally anti-Dadaist poet and critic Marius André ("A Marius André, | Louis Aragon"). Whether the inscription was intended to have been in homage or as a provocation is unclear but a few years later André described Dadaism as "une stupide mystification". Aragon served in the French army during the war and was then at the forefront of the Dadaist and Surrealist movements, alongside André Breton and Philippe Soupault.
